The opportunity

We are looking for a results-driven and confident Financial Controller to manage and improve our organization's financial performance and direct day-to-day financial and trust accounting operations. Ideally, you will have experience working in the finance function of an financial services company or bank and will need to be someone who enjoys teaching and developing the team with vision as well as the ability to roll your sleeves up and get involved. The noteworthy Financial Controller will actively work on streamlining our financial and trust accounting functions and operations, provide financial analysis and reports, train staff on accounting topics, promote regulatory compliance, and drive income generation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and vision for scaling our finance function to keep up with our growth, including building our team and developing our financial infrastructure.
  • Oversight of the day-to-day running of finance and engagement/coordination with both HK and overseas finance teams.
  • Own the general ledger, tax, payroll including monthly accounts payable and receivable, insurance, audit, and equity planning.
  • Managing of finance relationships with vendors, banks, financial institutions, and payment processors.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the monthly, quarterly and annual reporting process - both via automation and control.
  • Implement and contribute to the ongoing development of internal fiduciary accounting systems, processes, internal controls and policies that will scale with future growth.
  • Perform accounting deep dives on specific topics to ensure that our financial processes are compliant and efficient and be responsible for running projects on any new tax or accounting regulations that could impact the business.
  • Coordinate the preparation of statutory accounts for all group entities in accordance with the relevant accounting principles and the legislation in which they operate.
  • Act as point person on monthly, quarterly and year-end financial activities.
  • Drive the annual audit process ensuring a timely and effective audit.
  • Hire and/or manage junior accounting staff.
  • Supporting the management with ad-hoc reporting.

Requirements

  • A bachelors degree in accounting finance/economics/business, or other related areas.
  • 5+ years’ post qualified experience in finance functions, preferably with experience within a dynamic high-growth company with high pressure.
  • Membership of HKICPA/CIMA/ACCA preferable or equivalent with strong technical skills, ideally gained through an audit background.
  • Commercial acumen and the ability to think creatively and innovatively in relation to problem-solving.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to unravel complex accounting queries.
  • Ability to comprehend and narrate financial records for external stakeholders.
  • Experience in systems transformation, process automation and control optimisation - both functional requirements through to system go-live.
  • Experience in leading and developing a high performing team.
  • Ability to understand our business model and what the company needs to scale.
  • Experience with Fiduciary Accounting or Fund Accounting is a plus.
